Australia Tops USA Women 8-4 On First Night Of Canada Cup

Montreal, Canada - December 3- The USA Women's Senior National Team fell to Australia 8-4 in the opening match of the 2009 Canada Cup in Montreal, Canada last night. Despite three goals from Melissa Seidemann the United States found themselves in a hole early and were unable to rally. They take on Canada tonight at 7:00pm est/4:00pm pst.

In the match with the Aussies it was Australia jumping out to an early lead posting a 3-0 advantage after the first quarter. In the second stanza the United States got on the board with scores from Seidemann and Kristen Dronberger to close to 4-2 at halftime. That would be as close as things would get as Australia built up a 6-2 lead in the third period. Two more goals from Seidemann kept things within shouting distance headed to the fourth period. Leading 7-4 as play moved to the final frame, Australia added on one more tally and came away winners at 8-4.

Bronwen Knox led the Australia attack with four goals.
