Concordia Into Varsity Top Ten; USC Remains At Number One

BRIDGEPORT, Pa.
-- The University of Southern California, Whittier College and the
United States Naval Academy remain the top teams in the nation as the Collegiate
Water Polo Association (CWPA) released the November 11 Men's Varsity Top 20,
Division III Top 10 and CWPA Top 10 polls.
Voted on by a panel of coaches
and administrators from around the country during each week of the season and
based on the cumulative results of each team, the Varsity Top 20, Division III
Top 10 and Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 10 polls are released each
Wednesday during the season until the Wednesday following the National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship hosted by Princeton
University in early December.
Men's Top 20 Varsity Poll
The University of
Southern California earned its fifth consecutive week, and seventh
overall, as the No. 1 team in the nation as the Trojans were previously ranked
in the top spot in the Preseason, September 9, September 16, October 14, October
21, October 28 and November 4 polls.
Further, for a third
consecutive week the Trojans are a unanimous selection as the nation's best
earning 100 points.
Overall, 19 of the teams
ranked in the Top 20 last week remained in the poll as former No. 20
Bucknell University dropped out of the poll.
The first eight positions in
the poll remain unchanged from the November 4 balloting as the first changes
occurred at positions 9-10.
Concordia University
(Calif.), which was ranked 10th last week, moves up one place to take
over the No. 9 position and drop University of California-Santa
Barbara back to No. 10.
University of
California-San Diego and the United States Naval
Academy held onto their positions at No. 11-12, while Santa
Clara University and the United States Air Force
Academy climbed one place to claim possession of the No. 13 and 14
rankings, respectively.
University of the Pacific
slips to No. 15, while University of California-Davis,
Princeton University, Saint Francis College
(N.Y.) and California Baptist University remain at NO.
16-19.
The lone newcomer to the Top
20 poll is Johns Hopkins University, which finsihed third at the CWPA Southern
Championship to displace Bucknell University and take over the final spot in the
poll.

Men's Division III Top 10 Varsity
Poll
Whittier College garnered 99 points to remain No. 1
in the Division III Top 10 Poll for a third week in-a-row.
The Poets, who recorded 99
points and 100 points over the past two weeks, is followed by University
of Redlands, Johns Hopkins University,
Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and Chapman University
in the Top 10.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges,
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Occidental
College, California Lutheran University and
Washington & Jefferson College round out the Top 10 as all
10 teams ranked last week remain in the poll for another seven-day stretch.

10 Poll
The United States
Naval Academy garnered 100 points for a fourth consecutive week to
retain its position as a unanimous top selection in the Collegiate Water Polo
Association Top 10 Poll.
Navy, which first earned 100
points to rate as the consenus No. 1 team in the league on October 21, won the
Southern Division title last weekend leads a string of division teams as
Princeton University, Johns Hopkins University
and Bucknell University rate 2-4, in line with the order of
finish at Southerns.
Brown
University, which captured its first Northern Division tilte last
weekend since 1993, continues to rank fifth, while Nothern Division runner-up
Fordham University held onto the sixth place ranking.
Massachusetts Insitute
of Technology, Iona College, George Washington
University and Harvard University complete the Top 10
teams in the league.
