Day 2 of Boys S&R Sport Junior Olympics In The Books

Stanford, CA July 26th- An electric atmosphere could be felt on Day 2 of the S & R Sport Junior Olympics, as the teams were separated in to two different brackets. The teams from Day 1 with the best records were placed in the Platinum bracket with the remaining teams in the Gold bracket. Competition becomes tougher as the best of the best face off in the Platinum bracket. There is no drop off in intensity in the Gold bracket where teams look to bounce back from a tough Day 1 of the tournament. 


10 & Under (coed)

In the 10 & Under division there were 12 teams placed in the Gold bracket. Of these teams, CHAWP was the lone team to recover from a tough Day 1, to be victorious twice. As they defeated Stanford 10-1 and American River 10-3. Leaving them in prime position in the 10 & Under Gold bracket. 

The Platinum bracket consisted of 24 closely matched teams. In an edge of your seat battle between Foothill and SET, which had both sets of fans up on their feet trying to give their team a spark to push them toward the win. Between the two teams there was just a single goal which went in favor of Foothill as they took the win, 8-7. Qualifying for the S&R Sport Junior Olympics Semi-Finals will conclude on Monday July 27th in the morning. 


12 & Under

Of the 24 teams who are competing in the Gold bracket of the 12 & Under S&R Sport Junior Olympics, three teams were able to gain momentum by winning both games on the day.  These teams were Pacific Polo, Houston and Stanford White, leaving them in great position in the 12 & Under Gold bracket. Pacific Polo scored in double digits in their two games on Day 2 out dueling TV/Henderson 11-4, and Lamorinda A 10-5. Houston cruised in their two games with big victories over 680 Blue 19-5, and Lamorinda B 18-4, leaving them in a great position going into Day 3 of the tournament. In Stanford White's first game of the day, they put on a great offensive display scoring 15 goals, giving up just four against Stoneridge. As Stanford White continued Gold Bracket play, it was their defensive play which stood out in their second game as they shutout Davis 5-0. These teams will look to continue their winning streaks on Day 3. 

The Platinum bracket had four teams go unbeaten on the day. These teams were Commerce, SET, LAWPC and Newport. In an amazing display Commerce shutout American River 16-0 flexing their muscles early in the day. They finished Day 2, 3 and 0 by defeating Claude Moore 9-4 and HBWPC 4-3. For SET the lucky number of the day was 13 as they scored 13 goals in both of their victories today against CVAC and Los Al. LAWPC went a perfect 2-0 today winning both their games by a double digit margin against SBWPC 15-2, and Rose Bowl, 18-4. Newport was the last team to pull off an undefeated Day 2 as they took out OCWPC 10-5, and SD Shores A 8-6. These four teams will definitely be in contention for the Semi-Finals on Day 3 of the S&R Sport Junior Olympics. 

14 & Under

There were 40 games played today in the 14 & Under Gold bracket. There were a total of four teams who were able to finish Day 2 undefeated. The opponents who faced these four teams were held below double digit goals in every game. The undefeated teams were Newport, Northwood, HBWPC, and Greenwich Green. These four teams relied on defensive strength as well as their offenses to defeat their opponents. After their strong showings today, these four teams will be looking to continue their winning ways tomorrow on Day 3.

As the Platinum bracket got underway, four teams continued to look strong as they were able to finish Day 2 undefeated. SD shores went 3-0 on the day defeating South Florida 9-7, LAWPC Red in a close one 3-2, and in another close match, defeated Titans 9-8. Putting them in good position in the Platinum bracket. OCWPC opened their day with a 12-7 win over Stanford Red, and finished the day by defeating 680 Red 10-6. Foothill Red stole victory in the last two minutes from Pittsburgh defeating them 5-4 as the crowd went wild. Their second game was a little less nerve racking for their fans as they defeated SET A 8-5. The last of the undefeated, United Blue got off to a hot start outscoring CVAC 13-3 in a comfortable win. United Blue needed a penalty shootout to defeat VC Premier as regulation finished four goals a piece. They were able to win the shoot out 9-8. 


16 & Under

The 16 & Under Gold bracket had 28 games throughout Day 2 of the tournament. The four standout teams of the day were Elite who had a little bit of everything, as they had three victories including a shutout and a penalty shootout win. Elite's defense held Shore Aquatics scoreless in a 5-0 win. They then defeated Clovis 8-2, and in their last game of the day, at the end of regulation they were tied at 5-5 with PAC NW United. Elite went on to win 4-0 in the penalty shootout. La Canada played two closely matched games as they defeated American River 3-1 and Houston 2-1. UC Premier heads in to Day 3 off back to back wins against SBWPC B 9-6, and De Anza Blue 8-3. Scripps dominated their first game in a 16-1 rout of Puget Sound. Their second game was much closer as they needed a shootout to dispatch of Naperville. The game ended 6-6  on regulation, but Scripps came out on top in the shootout 3-2. 

On Day 2 in the Platinum bracket, the competition was fierce with four teams surviving the day undefeated. Stanford Red pulled out two good wins over 680 Red 6-3, and SD Shores A 11-9. Setting them up for a big Day 3. SET put up 10 goals in each of their games on Day 2 of the tournament as they earn victories over Los Al A 10-2, and Newport 10-4. Also scoring 10 goals in each of their two games was SOCAL Black as they were to much for Titans and Rose Bowl Black. SBWPC A were on cruise control as they beat Kingfish 13-3 and CHAWP White 15-7. These four teams will be steam rolling their way into Day 3 with championship aspirations. 


18 & Under

At the close of play on Day 2 in the Gold bracket of the 18 & Under division, five teams were successful in winning all of their games.  First team was Xtreme who were able to go three for three defeating Lamorinda B in a shootout after regulation ended 6-6, but taking the win 5-4 in the shootout. Their second win was more straight forward as they defeated Sunset 15-9. Their third game took yet another shootout for them to earn the win 5 (5) - 5 (4). 
Naperville got off to a great start defeating Northern Illinois 13-1 and finished the day strong against Solo, winning 12-7. Foothill won both their games by a three goal margin defeating Raiders 11-8, and Stockton 10-7. De Anza Blue had a comfortable first game defeating TV Henderson 13-6. Their next game went into a shootout as they defeated Pacific Polo 5-3. As regulation ended 6-6.  The last team to finish the day undefeated in the gold bracket, was Elite going two for two defeating Sacramento 11-8. They also defeated Naperville in yet, another shootout with a score of 7-6 as the game ended in a score tie or 6-6. 

As Day 2 of the S&R Sport Junior Olympics 18 & Under Platinum bracket came to a close, four teams held an undefeated record. Lamorinda will go into Day 3 coming off of two close wins as they defeated Trojans 9-6, and SOCAL Black 4-3. Stanford Red scored eight goals in each of their two games as they defeated SBWPC 8-5, and LAWPC Red 8-6. Diablo had an exciting, yet nerve racking day as they they won both games via shootouts. They beat USA United in a 5-3 shootout after a 6-6 tie. Diablo second shootout gave them a victory over CHAWP White 9-8 after finishing with a tie score of 8-8. SD Shores sails into Day 3 after two solid victories on Day 2, after they defeated Shore Aquatics 15-6 and Rosebowl Black 9-1. These four teams will look to continue winning as they hope to reach the finals. 

Day 3 of the Boys S&R Sport Junior Olympics will be full of highly contested games as the Semi-final pictures of each bracket will become clear. As the top four teams from each bracket will face off for a place in the finals.
