Australia Tops Team USA 8-4 In Quarter-Finals Of World University Games

Belgrade, Serbia - July 8 - Australia used a strong second half surge to defeat Team USA 8-4 in the quarter-finals of the World University Games earlier today. The USA will be back in action on Friday against an opponent to be determined.

This match saw back and forth action in the first half as Australia took a 2-1 lead after the first quarter only to be countered in the second quarter by the United States. In the second period Team USA outscored Australia 2-1 and the match was tied 3-3 at intermission.

It was the third quarter where Australia made a difference outscoring the United States 4-1 to open up a 7-4 lead going to the fourth quarter. In the fourth the Aussies tacked on another score and held Team USA scoreless to come away with the 8-4 result.

Along with Mello's two scores JP MacDonnell and Jacob Murphy also scored once. Jimmie Sandman went all four quarters in the cage stopping six shots. The United States went just 2/8 on player advantages while Australia was 1/4.
