USA Downs Spain 10-8 At World University Games

Belgrade, Serbia - July 6 - The United States bounced back at the World University Games with a 10-8 defeat of Spain earlier today. Thomas Hale and JP MacDonnell led the offensive attack with two goals each. The squad is back in action on Wednesday, July 8 against Australia in the quarterfinals.
Team USA got the jump early in this one opening up a 3-1 lead after the first quarter and then kept building taking a 5-2 advantage into the intermission. Spain looked to rally in the third quarter posting two scores but that was countered by three American goals and it was 8-4 headed to the final frame. The Spaniards had one final rally in them scoring four goals but it was too little too late. The United States added on two more goals of their own and came away winners at 10-8.
Joining Hale and MacDonnell were Tommy Corcoran, John Mann, Zac Monsees, Shea Buckner, Jacob Murphy, and Matt Sagehorn who all chipped in with a goal each. Jimmie Sandman did the job in net halting 12 shots.
The United States went 2/4 on player advantages while Spain was 2/7. Spain also connected on their lone penalty shot attempt.
