Team USA Hammers Poland 16-3 On Day Two Of World University Games

Belgrade, Serbia - July 3 - Team USA rebounded on day two of the World University Games with a strong defeat of Poland 16-3. Matt Sagehorn and Colin Mello led the way with three goals apiece while Jimmie Sandman and Andy Stevens split time in net turning aside 12 shots.
The United States jumped out early with a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and led 9-1 at halftime. In the third they continued to pour it on scoring four goals to just two from Poland to build a 13-3 advantage. The final period saw the USA defense pitch another shutout while scoring three goals to cruise to a 16-3 win.
Along with Sagehorn and Mello a variety of scorers chipped in including John Mann, Shea Buckner, and Jacob Murphy scoring two goals each. Tommy Corcoran, Thomas Hale, Zac Monsees, and JP MacDonnell added a goal each as well. Sandman posted seven saves while Stevens added five. Team USA was very efficient on player advantages going 5-6 while Poland was 0-2.
Team USA is back in action tomorrow when they take on Hungary at 3:40pm local Serbia time.
