Team USA Pounds Japan 14-3 On Day Two Of FINA World League Super Final

Podgorica, Montenegro - June 17 - The Men's Senior National Team made quick work of Japan winning 14-3 on day two of the FINA Men's World League Super Final. Jeff Powers led all scorers with three goals. The team is now off to a 2-0 start and will meet up with Serbia tomorrow. Serbia and the United States met in three matches last week in Northern California with Serbia winning one contest and the other two ending in ties.
In the match against Japan Team USA jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first quarter and a 7-0 lead at halftime. The third quarter saw the Japanese finally get on the board with a goal but this was countered by four Team USA goals and it was 11-1 headed to the fourth. In the final stanza Japan added two goals, those were countered by three USA goals and Team USA cruised to a 14-3 victory.
Along with Powers, Brian Alexander and Adam Wright scored two goals. The rest of the goals came from Tim Hutten, John Mann, Justin Johnson, Peter Varellas, Tony Azevedo, JW Krumpholz, and Thomas Hopkins. Merrill Moses and Genai Kerr split time in the cage with Moses halting four shots and Kerr stopping six attempts.
"It was another solid defensive effort for us and we complimented that nicely with a balanced scoring attack," said USA Head Coach Terry Schroeder.
