How Did They Get Started?: Knight Water Polo started in 2002 with three kids just two days a week. Led by coaches Joseph McCommons and Derek Ellingson the two began to spread water polo interest through the Queens borough of New York City. Over the past couple of years the club has expanded and is currently comprised of 26 athletes practicing four days a week,
Where Is Home?: In the shadow of the brand new home of the New York Mets, Citi Field, is the Flushing Corona Park pool where the Knights call home. The 8-13 age group practices Monday and Tuesday evenings while the 13-18 age group is in the pool Monday and Thursday evenings. The team has also played a host of matches in this pool.
Who Do They Play?: The Knights are largely East-Coast based for the time being traveling to New Jersey and Pennsylvania for matches the past two season. They have competed in a variety of tournaments, some with other clubs from USA Water Polo.
Five Years Down The Road: In the future the club hopes to have 12U through 18U age groups in competition for boys and girls. Coach McCommons would also like to expand the club and competition to pools beyond Flushing Meadows. By getting other clubs involved the Knights may someday start a league for New York City, where, of course, the club originated.
