How They Got Started: Clovis Masters Water Polo Club originated in the
summer of 1994 as a "group" of guys that just wanted to play water polo and
build a club. After starting out as a committee run group the club merged with
the Central Valley Age Group Water Polo Club in 2004. This expanded the board
running the club which is now comprised of coaches, masters players, parents,
and referees.
From there the club officially changed names to Central Valley Water Polo Club.
At this point the club grew involving age group, high school, and collegiate
players along with the masters players.
Where Do They Practice: Practices are held at the Sunnyside High School
pool
Masters Degree: The club which has always had a strong masters program
has competed in Masters Nationals every year since 1995. They took home the
title for the 20s in 1997 and have seen multiple third place finishes for their
30s and 40s most recently a 3rd place finish for the 40s in 2003. The team also
hosts a yearly masters tournament that is going on it's 15th year. Included in
the water polo action is a social, dinner, and highlight video. (Check out the
one from 2007 )
Still Room To Grow: The winter water polo sessions for CVWP have produced
tremendous growth and has currently put the club at capacity when it comes to
the current age group levels. They are still recruiting players for the women's
senior masters. In addition the club would like to offer a 14U boys and girls
program at some point in the near future. Also the expansion of the masters
program including adding more age brackets to both the men and the women are in
the works.
Where Do They Play: The question should be, where don't they play. The
club is routinely involved in all the big tournaments including but not limited
to Masters Nationals, California State Games, Junior Olympics, Maui
Invitational, various age group tournaments, as well as a masters tournament
they host.
Big Men On Campus: The club has had some great success sending players on
to the collegiate game. Colin Mello went off to UC Irvine, Robert Miranda to
Long Beach State, and Jonathan Richina to Cal Berkeley just to name a few.
Just Like Dad: Central Valley Water Polo proves water polo can be a game
for the whole family as they boast three sets of father/son duos playing for the
club. In addition the club is quite diverse boasting a make-up of different
races, cultures, and nationalities along with socio-economic backgrounds
Why CVWP: According to the club they bring quality coaching along with a
quality facility to play in. In addition, with this club water polo becomes a
sport for your whole life. From age group to the 50 and over division this club
will always have a place for people to play if they are interested.
