How They Got Started: The club traces its origins to a small club named South Pasadena Aquatics founded by Jimi Campillo in the mid-1990s.
In 1998, the SPA program became Rose Bowl Water Polo Club under the umbrella of the AAF Rose Bowl Aquatics Center in Pasadena, California. In a short period of time, Rose Bowl began to flourish with a growing membership and reputation. Teams competed in the Junior Olympics and several players were named to the U.S. National Development, Cadet and Youth levels, with the opportunity to play in international tournaments.
In 2005, Daniel Leyson was named Director and Head Coach and the coaching staff continued to expand. Teams began entering and winning tournaments across the country including Speedo Cup, Florida International and Coastal California Zone Championships.
Where Do They Play: Rose Bowl takes part in pretty much every major competition they can get a hold of. That includes the Speedo Cup, County Cup, WinterFest, United States Club Championships, Florida International tourney, Cal Cup and the Junior Olympics.
What's Next: Rose Bowl Water Polo Club seeks to provide the best educational opportunity possible for athletes involved and over the next five years, plans to continue to improve this experience. This will mean beginning to host training at satellite locations near the Center and provision of separate team training for novice players. Rose Bowl’s goal is to be amongst the top clubs in the nation consistently for both the boys and girls programs.
