Coach of the Month - June 2012 Rick Rowland - Southern Pacific Zone

Rick has been a coaching stalwart in the southern California scene since his days at Pepperdine, playing for his Dad, Rick Rowland Senior. Rick was a coach at Villa Park High School where he had tremendous success and then moved to start the polo and swimming programs at Santa Margarita High School. He built the program into an aquatics powerhouse and as a result, the school has honored him with the Rick Rowland Award, given to the hardest working athlete. He has transitioned into the collegiate ranks at Cal Baptist University and has led the school in numerous championships for both polo and swimming.

In his spare time (!), Rick founded the club team, Xtreme. Xtreme has proven to be a player in the age group world with a JO win and is now a perennial top seed at the tournaments they attend. Many of the girls from Xtreme have gone on to win their first CIF title this year.

Rick brings a solid work ethic to his players along with sound fundamentals. His programs are not a win at all cost mentality but rather, win with dignity. Rick Rowland is truly deserving of recognition for his long time and solid performance and contributions to the water polo and aquatics worlds
