Athlete of the Month - July 2010 Brock Gordon - Shore Aquatics

I am nominating my son Brock Gordon as a possible "athlete of the month." Brock is fourteen years old and has been playing water polo for Shore Aquatics in Long Beach for the last two and a half years. Brock is extremely dedicated to the sport, he trains six to seven days a week with his club Shore Aquatics and now his incoming high school Wilson High School. Brock is an utility player and is a very fast swimmer.

Last November Brock and his team qualified for and competed at the Speedo Cup in Michigan. Brock and his team recently qualified for the Junior Olympics, coming in second place and now will be going to J.O's in August. He also made the Coastal California 9th grade and under Boys zone training team for the ODP's starting in September. All these events are examples of the level of play and dedication Brock has to water polo.

What I am most proud of, is that on top of this he is a straight A student. At his middle school graduation Brock was presented with an award honoring students who have received straight A's for the entire three years of middle school. The award is called the B.B. Howell award and out of 426 eighth grade students only 29 received this award.

I hope that USA water polo will take the time to recognize a younger athlete that deserves a "pat on the back" for all the hard work in and out of the pool that he puts in. He is an all around good kid that is also well liked by his teammates and coaches alike.

Thank you for your consideration,

Tamara Gordon
