ROSTERS/SCORESHEETS
Each coach MUST turn in an official NJO score sheet to the Official Table thirty (30) minutes prior to each game. Score sheets will be distributed in team packets at team check in following coach technical meeting.

CAP COLOR
First team listed wears white caps and starts the game sitting on the bench to the left of the Official Table. Teams shall switch ends at half time.

WARM UP
A team shall receive a minimum of five (5) minutes in front of goals immediately prior to the start of their game. If goals are provided in warm up area, additional time will not be given.

RED CARDS
A participant who receives a red card shall not participate in the team's next game in that division, and until the suspension is served, shall not participate with any team in any division and may be subject to additional punishment by action of the Championship Finals Management Committee.

BRUTALITY/VIOLENCE
A participant penalized for a violation of Rule 21.11 of USA Water Polo Rules (brutality/violence) shall not participate in the team's next game in that division, and until the suspension is served, shall not participate with any team in any division, and may be subject to additional punishment by action of the Championship Finals Management Committee.

BREAKING TIES
All games shall be played to a decision ... with a definite winner. Should the scores be level at full time in any game, there shall be a shoot out to determine the result.

SHOOT-OUT PROCEDURE

  • There will be an immediate coin toss to determine the shooting order.
  • All shots will be taken at same goal as determined by the referees.
  • Each team places its 5 players on scorekeeper's desk side of pool.
  • No declaration of shooting order required.
  • Shots are taken alternately.
  • The desk must record the shooting order on the score sheet for use if it goes to second round.
  • After the first round it is sudden death.
  • The bench at end opposite shooting end can move to half tank.

Shoot out - team that wins in a shoot out is given one extra goal (+1) for winning the shoot out for purposes of advancement. (e.g. if game is tied at 5-5, team winning the shoot out will have a score of 6-5 for advancement purposes)

ADVANCEMENT
All games require a winner and loser; NO TIED GAMES! Should the game score be tied at the end of regulation time, the tie shall be broken by shoot out. In group play, teams advance to the next round according to game points earned from game results within the group. The following point system shall be used for advancement purposes:

TIE-BREAKERS
In the unlikely case of teams tied in game points, teams advance according to the FINA tie breaker rules, stated in the FINA Playing Rules, Appendix BL

Two Way Ties - BL 9.6.3.1
If two (2) teams shall have equal points, further classificaion shall be established as follows:
"...The team winning the game between the two teams shall be placed higher..." (no other provisions apply)

Three Way Ties - BL 9.6.3.2
If three (3) or more teams shall have equal points, further classification shall be established as follows:

  • BL 9.6.3.2.1 : The results among the tied teams shall determine which team is placed highest.
  • BL 9.6.3.2.2 : If at any time during the application of the procedure set our in this BL 9.6.3.2, the number of tied teams is reduced to two (2), then BL 9.6.3.1 shall be used to determine which of the two (2) remaining teams is placed higher.
  • BL 9.6.3.2.3 : "The comparison shall be made upon first, the points of the games among them, next the goal difference, and next, based upon goals scored."

GOAL SIZE
Goal size for 10U age division shall be approximately 2 meters x 0.75 meters.
Standard goal size shall be used for 12U, 14U, 16U, 18U boys and girls divisions.

ROSTER SIZE

The Conduct of Championships allows for a maximum of 15 athletes, one head coach and one assitant coach on a National Junior Olympics roster. In addition a team may submit up to three alternate coaches on the event roster, however event credentials will be limited to rostered athletes and up to three coaches per qualified team.

PROTESTS
To protest a misapplication of the rules in a game a head coach or team official named on the game roster must:

  • do so within 30 minutes of its ending time (recorded by referee on the score sheet)
  • immediately pay a $100 cash Protest Fee to the Site Director, who holds it in behalf of USAWP
  • describe the incident and nature of the protest in writing, using the Protest Form.

The site director shall immediately notify these parties of a completed filing

  • the non-protesting team's head coach
  • the lead referee at the game site, or in his/her absence, the NJO head referee(s)
  • the Championship Finals Management Committee (CFMC) who shall timely hear all protests, and whose decision shall be final.

NOTE: If an adverse condition is known prior to the start of a game, all provisions apply, EXCEPT filing must be complete BEFORE the signal to start the game is given by the game referee. Teams will proceed with the game at the scheduled time.
