Brenda Villa has stayed busy since her retirement from water polo

Now Retired, Brenda Villa Shapes The Next Generation Of Water Polo

During her playing days, Brenda Villa was constantly busy. Now that she's retired, the most decorated international female water polo player of all time is enjoying some downtime, right? Not exactly. Along with coaching kids of all ages, Villa, 34, is running a non-profit organization she co-founded, and she was recently named to the executive committee of the Union Americana De Nacion (UANA) through the 2019 Pan American Games.

ESPNs Doug Kezirian played water polo in college at Brown University

SkipShot Q & A: ESPN Sports Broadcaster & Brown Water Polo Alum Doug Kezirian

    1. You played your high school water polo at Harvard-Westlake. What are your favorite water polo memories from your time there? Simply put, it was one of the most impactful and significant portions of all my years. I learned a great deal about life while playing such a fun and challenging sport. Winning the CIF championship my freshman year generated elation, while losing in double overtime in the finals the following season provided heartbreak. I rode the pine for those particular squads, but I experienced it all as a team. I will always cherish my varsity debut, even though it came against a bad team. I started as a freshman and scored three goals. The practices also resonated; one never forgets the 100 x 100s swim set. In my senior year, we got bounced in the CIF quarterfinals. To this day, Rich Corso busts my chops for leaving the 3-post while we were down a man. What can I say...defense was never my specialty. Overall, you always felt like you were part of something bigger than you. And it makes even more sense in adulthood. I owe Corso a lot.

Two-time Olympian Tim Hutten recently released his first album, California Kid.

Tim Hutten: From Two-Meter Man To Musical Talent

Water polo is not the only passion of Team USA member Tim Hutten -- he's also inspired by music and is ready to dive in headfirst. Hutten grew up in a musically gifted family and vividly remembers how his grandmother's voice and piano playing could bring a smile to his face. At age 12, he received his first drum set and found it difficult to walk away. Hutten spent hours hidden beneath his headphones, letting his own creativity run wild. He started a rock band in high school, played at his church on Sundays, and surrounded his family and friends with his music.

Maggie Steffens (right), was honored as the top female water polo player of the year by FINA in 2014. She is joined by Filip Filipovic (left), the mens recipient and an idol to Steffens.

2014 FINA Women's Water Polo Player Of The Year Maggie Steffens, Forever Competitive

Maggie Steffens has always been competitive. In a soccer game, Steffens once delivered a perfect pass across the field to a teammate, who never saw the pass coming. So Steffens ran laterally across the pitch to track down her own pass, dribbling forward and beating the goalkeeper for a score. She was five years old. At a swim meet, Steffens, a freestyler, was called upon to swim breaststroke in the top heat of the day. Attacking the race with extreme effort, Steffens injured her groin during the race. She recorded a time faster than her team's top breaststroke swimmer.
