Huntington Beach, CA – September 12, 2017 – 2004 Olympian and water polo ambassador Genai Kerr has joined USA Water Polo as sport growth manager, USA Water Polo Director of Sport Growth Mark Carney announced today. The move comes as USA Water Polo continues to intensify its sport expansion efforts. Already a staple in water polo communities around the country through his highly popular 5Meter Water Polo camps, Kerr will continue as a major presence throughout the United States to help enhance the game where it already exists while bringing the sport to areas with little or no water polo footprint. He’ll also help spearhead an effort to revitalize the USA Water Polo Splashball program, aimed at introducing water polo and water safety to children.

“I'm excited to join USA Water Polo as sport growth manager and collaborate on ways to improve and expand water polo at all levels,” Kerr said. “It’s an honor to be able to give back to the sport and community that has been such an enormous part of my life.”

“It is fantastic to welcome Genai in an official capacity to the USA Water Polo staff,” Carney added. “He has an energy that is unequaled, and his water polo knowledge and understanding of community engagement will be a real asset to us as we strive to bring the game to the masses. Genai's 5M camps are a fantastic opportunity to further engage our current members, and also attract new members to USA Water Polo. We are excited for the future with Genai on board.”

A former standout at UC Irvine, Kerr was a key piece of the Men’s National Team as goalie for more than a decade. A two-time Pan American Games Gold medalist and four-time FINA World Championship participant, Kerr was part of a seventh-place effort at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. Throughout his career and since his retirement from international water polo, Kerr has remained ingrained in the water polo community as a coach, instructor, and masters athlete. A former high school and club coach, Kerr also served as an assistant coach for Brown University men’s water polo.
