Atherton, CA - July 21 - The New York Athletic Club closed out a banner weekend of competition at Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton, CA as both their men's and women's teams won gold at the US Open of Water Polo. The women, led by MVP Cassie Wyckoff, were able to top Bruin 10-8 for the victory. SOCAL Gold defeated SOCAL Black 13-7 to claim third place. On the men's side the New York Athletic Club edged Stanford 11-10 for first place with Cosmin Radu earning MVP honors. In second place it was the Olympic Club defeating defending champion Newport Water Polo Foundation 9-5.
In the rest of the action on the men's side it was CORE A topping Bruin 9-7 for fifth place and Santa Barbara getting past Newport Water Polo Foundation B 9-8 for seventh place. In the ninth place CORE B downed Sacramento 10-6 and NYAC B defeated Davis 12-7 for 11th place. Navy closed out the standings topping SCV 12-7 to take 13th place.
On the women's side it was Laguna slipping past Olympic Club 11-10 for fifth place and Santa Barbara defeating NYAC B 12-8 for seventh place. 680 was victorious over American River 8-5 for ninth place and Marin stopped Diablo 14-9 to take 11th place.
