No Changes In Idle Week For Women's Varsity Top 20

May 8, 2013

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- With another week in the books, and no competition, the 2013 Women's Varsity National Polls for Week 16/May 8 remain unchanged from the Week 15/May 1 balloting entering the 2013 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women's Water Polo Championship this weekend at Harvard University's Blodgett Pool.

The University of Southern California, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, Princeton University  Connecticut College remain the top squads in the National Top 20, Division III Top 10, Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 and CWPA Division III Top Five, respectively, as no competition following the CWPA Eastern, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Big West Conference, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships last weekend lead to no changes from the previous week's results.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, WWPA, MPSF, SCIAC, Big West, MAAC and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2013 Women's Varsity National Top 20

The University of Southern California continues to stand as the unanimous No. 1 team in the 2013 Week 16/May 8 Women's Varsity National Top 20 Poll.

USC, which held the No. 1 position this year from the Week 6/February 27 through the Week 12/April 10 balloting, captured the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championship last weekend by handling former No. 1 Stanford University.

Stanford, which has ranked at No. 1 eight times this year as the Cardinal topped the Preseason Poll before holding the pole position through Week 1-to-5 of the weekly balloting, brought to an end USC's first run at No. 1 this year.  Following a two-week reign back in the pole position during the Week 13/April 17 and Week 14/April 24 polls, Stanford remains at No. 2 as neither the Cardinal nor the Women of Troy have ranked lower than No. 2 all season.

However, Stanford will have a chance to gain revenge against USC this weekend as the squads are joined by the University of Hawaii, Iona College, the University of California-San Diego, Princeton University,Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and the University of California-Los Angeles to comprise the eight-team field for the 2013 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women's Water Polo Championship on Friday-Sunday, May 10-12, at Harvard University's Blodgett Pool.
