No Changes In Top Five In Latest Women's Varsity Top 25 Poll; USC Remains In Front

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of Southern California remains the unanimous top team in the country to highlight the 2017 Women's Varsity Top 25, Division III Top 10, Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 and CWPA Division III Top Five Week 10/March 22 Polls released today by the CWPA.

USC, which snapped a seven-week run by Stanford University as the top team in the land as the Cardinal ranked at No. 1 in the Preseason, Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4, Week 5 and Week 6 voting prior to falling to the Trojans by a 10-9 score in overtime at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational title game at the University of California-Irvine, holds its lead at four points over the Cardinal which remain in second place.

There are no changes at the top of the other National Polls as Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Division III Top 10), the University of Michigan (CWPA Top 10) and Washington & Jefferson College (CWPA Division III Top 5) maintain their positions this week.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Big West Conference, Golden Coast Conference, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Women's Varsity polls are compiled and released on each Wednesday during the season through the week following the NCAA Championship.

2017 WOMEN'S VARSITY NATIONAL TOP 25 (WEEK 10/MARCH 22)

Defending National Champion the University of Southern California retains the No. 1 ranking as the Trojans top the Week 10/March 22 Women's Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

USC (100 points) remains a unanimous selection as the top team in the nation and leads a Top 25 Poll in which the first five positions remain unchanged from the Week 9/March 15 voting.

Stanford University (96 points), the University of California-Los Angeles (92 points) and the University of California (88 points) and the University of California-Irvine (83 points) remain at No. 2-to-5, respectively.

The first change in this week's poll comes at No. 6 as Arizona State University (79 points) shatters a tie with the University of Michigan (76 points) at No. 6 to acquire sole possession of the spot through 10 weeks of competition.  Michigan slips back to No. 7, with the University of Hawaii (73 points) and University of the Pacific (69 points) sticking at No. 8 and 9, respectively.

The University of California-Davis (61 points), which ranked at No. 10 last week, gains company as Princeton University (61 points) ties the Aggies for the No. 10 spot.

San Diego State University (54 points), the University of California-Santa Barbara (51 points) and San Jose State University (47 points) stand firm at No. 12-to-14, with Indiana University (43 points) taking over sole custody of the No. 5 slot after tying with Long Beach State University (42 points) seven days ago.

Long Beach State and Wagner College (37 points) account for the No. 16 and 17 positions, with Hartwick College (32 points) moving ahead of the University of California-San Diego (31 points) as the teams exchange the No. 18 and 19 spots. 

Harvard University (22 points) remains at No. 20 with Loyola Marymount University (16 points) rising two positions to land at No. 21.  California State University-Northridge (14 points) and CSU Bakersfield (14 points) are now tied at No. 22 in front of No. 24 Marist College (13 points) and the duo of California Baptist University (2 points) and Brown University (2 points) which are tied at No. 25.

2017 WOMEN'S VARSITY DIVISION III TOP 10 (WEEK 10/MARCH 22)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges holds onto the No. 1 slot in the Week 10/March 22 Division III Top 10 Poll.

The Sagehens (99 points), who broke out of a one-week tie with Whittier College last week on top of the Division III Top 10 Poll, falls one point shy of being a unanimous top selection.  Whittier (93 points) and the University of La Verne (90 points) follow at No. 2 and 3 for another week.

Chapman University (83 points) rises to No. 4 to drop California Lutheran University (82 points) back to No. 5.  Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (77 points) slides back to No. 6 with the trio of the University of Redlands (69 points), Occidental College (67 points) and Washington & Jefferson College (48 points) remaining at No. 7-to-9, respectively.

The Top 10 teams in the country gain a new member this week as Macalester College (33 points), which defeated former No. 10 Connecticut College (23 points) last week by a 6-5 final score in a netural site game at California Lutheran, moves into the Top 10 in the final position.

Connecticut and Carthage College (11 points) also received votes.

2017 WOMEN'S CWPA TOP 10 (WEEK 10/MARCH 22)

2016 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion and preseason favorite the University of Michigan remains the No. 1 selection in the Week 10/March 22 CWPA Top 10 Poll.

Princeton University (96 points), Indiana University (91 points), Hartwick College (86 points) and Harvard University (79 points) remain a No. 2-to-5 behind the Wolverines (100 points) with Brown University (75 points) hanging on at No. 6.

The sole change in the Top 10 comes at No. 7 and 8 as Bucknell University (70 points) surpasses George Washington University (66 points).

Saint Francis University (59 points) and Washington & Jefferson College (33 points) remain at No. 9 and 10.

Macalester College (23 points) also received votes.

2017 WOMEN'S CWPA DIVISION III TOP 5 (WEEK 10/MARCH 22)

2014, 2015 and 2016 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship runner-up Washington & Jefferson College stays at No. 1 in the Week 10/March 22 CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

Macalester College (78 points) moves up to No. 2 behind the Presidents (96 points) for the highest ranking in the history of the Scots' program.  Four-time CWPA Division III Champion (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) Connecticut College (72 points), which rated at No. 2 last week, slips into a tie with Carthage College (72 points) at No. 3 with Grove City College (66 points) rating at No. 5.

Penn State Behrend (34 points) and Monmouth College (32 points) also received votes.
