Codes of Conduct (sample)

USOC & USA Water Polo Safe Sport Program
The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) along with the National Governing Bodies (including USA Water Polo) originally spearheaded a program called SafeSport to help raise awareness about misconduct in sport, promote open dialogue, and provide training and resources. In 2017, the US Center for SafeSport opened as a means for education, awareness, reporting misconduct in sport. All athletes, coaches*, referees*, administrators*, parents, volunteers, etc. are encouraged to read about the information and take the training. *Members required to take the training. Visit the USAWP SafeSport page for more information.

Parent Resources
Parents are an important and integral part of youth sports. As a club, you must communicate policies, guidelines, and expectations for all members, including parents. Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) has created a lot of great tools for Parents. Please visit the PCA - USAWP Partnership page for more information and tools.

Fundraising Ideas
No fundraising idea is too small - you've got to start somewhere! As with all fundraising, please be sure you have proper business license necessary to secure donations.

  • Team with a local restaurant for a special dine-in night and receive a percentage of the proceeds.
  • Sell merchandise and spirit packs - gather order forms in advance to know how much to order. Order extra to have for new additions.
  • Host a polo-a-thon or egg-beater-a-thon and have the athletes find sponsors per lap, goal, hour, etc.
  • Host a dinner or reception with raffle or auction items.
  • Reach out to your community - the student athletes in your area represent your community. Find a local business whose vision aligns with your club.

Insurance Requirements
All current USAWP club practices are covered with USAWP General Liability Insurance. In order for this policy to be active, all participants (athletes, coaches, referees) must be current USAWP members. With the individual membership, current members also have a secondary accident policy. Scrimmages, events, tournaments, leagues, etc. with more than two (2) teams will require an event sanction. Please visit the Insurance Information page for more information on insurance, including how to file a claim.

Social Media
USA Water Polo has a media team focused on partnering with members to increase coverage of all water polo participation. With more than 100,000 members combined on social media, connecting with @USAWP can help you reach out to more people, in and out of your area. Don't forget to use #USAWP and #Counterattack for a chance to appear on one of our episodes of The Counterattack.
