Canada Edges Team USA 6-5 In Second Match Of Volvo Cup

Budapest, Hungary - February 24 - The USA Men's Senior National Team fell to Canada 6-5 in the second match of the Volvo Cup today in Hungary. After defeating Australia 9-4 earlier in the day Team USA came up short against the Canadians. Team captain Tony Azevedo (Long Beach, CA/NYAC) and JP MacDonnell (Redwood City, CA/Sharks) led the way on offense scoring twice while Merrill Moses (Palos Verdes, CA/NYAC) denied six shots in net.
Canada got off to the early start in this match posting a 2-1 lead after the first period. In the second frame defense was on display with each team failing to score a goal for a 2-1 Canada advantage at halftime. In the third period the United States battled back outscoring Canada 3-2 to tie the game up at 4-4 going into the fourth quarter. In the last quarter Canada proved to be one goal better and came away with the 6-5 victory.
The United States went 1/6 on power plays. "We came out really flat and were not able to recover against a very physical Canadian team," said USA Head Coach Terry Schroeder.
Team USA returns to action tomorrow against Hungary at 7:00pm local time.
