USA Men's National Team Tops Germany 13-9

Berlin, Germany - February 20 - In their first match since the 2009 World Championships the USA Men's Senior National Team downed Germany 13-9. Three goals apiece from Tony Azevedo and Zac Monsees led the offensive attack while Andy Stevens and Genai Kerr split time in the cage combining for 13 saves. Team USA now prepares for the Volvo Cup getting started this week in Hungary.

A high scoring first half was a hallmark of the game with the Germans as the United States posted a 4-3 lead after the first quarter and led 8-6 at halftime. The scoring tailed off in the third quarter with each team notching just one goal to keep the United States in front 9-7 as play moved to the fourth. In the final quarter Team USA tacked on four more goals, while keeping Germany to just two, to come away with the 13-9 win.

The United States went just 2/9 on player advantages but received balanced scoring getting two goals each from Jesse Smith, Shea Buckner, and JP MacDonnell, and a score from JW Krumpholz. "We stepped up on defense in the second half. It was very good to see some of the younger guys play well," added USA Head Coach Terry Schroeder.

Team USA is next in action on February 24 when they take on Canada to open up play in the Volvo Cup.
