Masters Program

USAWP supports and promotes competition and events among its members domestically and internationally.  Membership in Masters Water Polo is available to anyone age 20 and older.  Each year dozens of tournaments are held throughout the US highlighted by the USA Water Polo Masters National Championships each June.  Champions are crowned in 20+, 30+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, and 60+ age categories for men.  Women contest in the 20+, 30+, 40+, and 50+ age groups.

Sanctioned Events

More than 30 USAWP sanctioned events are planned for 2011. There have never been more opportunities to compete in Masters play at USA Water Polo. Use the events calender link above to review the tournaments planned for the coming year. Planning an event that isn’t on the list? Send us the details at masters@usawaterpolo.org.  Also, make sure you sanction the tournament with USA Water Polo by clicking here. In addition to providing the best insurance coverage in aquatic sport, we’ll also help to promote your event on our website.

NEW COMPETITION FOR 2011
Hawaii, Las Vegas, Orlando, Chicago Atlanta and Greenwich are all making plans for new USA Water Polo sponsored events.  Some tournaments will include international competition while others allow individual registration.  Check out your options!

Awards

The BRYAN WEAVER Master of the Year honors the Masters member who exemplifies sportsmanship, winning performances and a commitment to the Masters Water Polo community.

2011 Recipient
Kathy "Gubba" Sheehy

2010 was a big year for Gubba Sheehy. The 2000 Olympic Silver Medalist was inducted into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame and in the same weekend helped guide the OMBAC Masters Club in a variety of age groups at the USA Water Polo Masters Nationals. Sheehy won a Gold Medal in the 20+ division, and a Silver Medal in the 30+ and 40+ age divisions. A coach for the OMBAC club as well as La Costa Canyon in the San Diego area Sheehy also coaches in ODP and competed in the Top 40 event this past fall.

Plans For Masters Growth

USAWP and our Masters Advisory Committee will be working together on the further development of a strategic plan to keep moving forward.  We are currently planning a session at the USA Water Polo Assembly January 14-16 as a workshop opportunity for anyone interested in participating.  More information will be available soon on that session.
