Olympic Development Program Phase 3

1. ODP REGIONS
· East: Northeast, Southeast and Midwest Zones
· West: Southwest, Mountain and Pacific Northwest Zones
· Pacific Coast: Pacific, Central CA and Hawaii Zones
· Southern California: Coastal CA, Southern Pacific and Pacific Southwest Zones
2. AGE GROUPS: ODP is expanding to three age groups
- 11th grade and U
- 9th grade
- 8th grade and Under
3. ODP TRAINING HOURS: 48 hours
- Calendars will be determined by the zones. Every Region will schedule an ODP Season that works with their club, High school and swim programs, to the best of their ability.
- 4 training weekends x 8 hours
- 3 training weekends x 10+ hours
- Regional Championships x 16 hours
4. ODP TRAINING FEES: $640- 4 payments of $160
- Training fees include 48 hours of training and competition for athletes, facilities, ODP trained coaches, an evaluation camp, collegiate recruiting accessibility, training from National Team coaches, ground transportation and hotel to the Regional Championships.
5. TRYOUTS and TRAINING
Logistics
· Tryout dates and locations will be posted at least 30 days in advance of the tryout.
· Tryout Hours = 12
· Tryout fee = $120
Tryout hours have increased from 6 to 12 hours. Why increase the tryout hours?
· To meet the demands of the zones with a large number of athletes that are attending the tryouts
· Will allow for more time and a fairer process to make the selection of the training team
· To meet the demands of the zones that are very large geographically
· More teaching and learning
ODP Zone Training Team Selection
· Each Zone Coach will select athletes for their respective ODP Zone Training Team with approval from the Regional Technical Director
· An ODP Training Team is announced by the Head Coach within a week of the conclusion of the tryouts, after approval of the Regional Technical Director
· 8th grade U and 9th grade Training Teams can consist of a maximum of 36 athletes through the Zone Evaluation Camp and 28 athletes after the Zone Evaluation Camp
· The Zone coaches will inform the athletes of their selection within one week after the tryout.
· An ODP Official Letter will be sent to each athlete formally inviting them to participate in ODP. At that time athletes should login to their USWP account and accept the invitation. (8 weeks after the Spring tryout, within a week after the first training weekend)
· If rosters are not filled after the Spring tryouts, a tryout will be opened to all new athletes the first weekend of the Phase 3 training. Additional athletes will be selected to make the Phase 3 training team at this time.
· 36 athletes can make a training team roster, however only 28 will be named after the Evaluation Camp to attend the Regional Championships.
ODP Zone Training Team Tryout Plan
· Spring tryouts will be conducted for the 8th grade U and 9th grade teams. They will be conducted as a combined tryout. Tryouts conducted in conjunction with training will occur with the appropriately aged team.
· 11th Grade U tryouts will take place at the first training weekend for all zones.
· 8th grade U girl tryouts will use the Mikasa Junior Ball where available. The junior ball will be used throughout Phase 3.
· A Tryout Practice Plan will be provided to Zone Coaches by the National Technical Director.
2010 ODP Holiday Camp and 8th grade U Tryouts
· At the 8th grade U Tryout, each Zone Coach will select 7-10, born 1998 athletes for the December 2010 ODP Holiday Camp. Athlete selection must include at least one goalie.
· Location: Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs, CO.
· Dates: Girls Camp- December 9-13; Boys Camp- December 16-21
· ODP National Technical Directors in collaboration with the Regional Technical Directors, ODP Zone Coordinators and USAWP Zone Chairs will select coaches to attend the Holiday Camp.
· Each ODP Training Zone will send one referee to each camp
ODP Training Schedule
· ODP training seasons have been set in each zone to avoid major conflicts with the high school, club and swim seasons. Most seasons will begin in either September 2010 or December 2010.
· Please check your zone home page listed on the ODP website for the most accurate information.
Zone Evaluation Camp
· Conducted at the halfway point of training
· Includes competition, training and testing
· Each athlete is evaluated at the halfway point of training
· Steps and progressions are included in the evaluation for the next evaluation at the Regional Championships
· Regional Technical Director supervises the Zone Evaluation Camp
· National Technical Director and/or National Teams Staff can be in attendance assisting in the supervision and evaluation of the Zone Evaluation Camp
Regional Championships
· Each region will conduct a Regional Championships
· It is a 2 day championships event format; number of venues will be determined.
· Regional Championships can be conducted at the conclusion of the ODP Season. Dates to be determined.
· Each Zone Training Team will bring a maximum of 28 athletes; two teams of 14
· Each athlete and coach will receive an evaluation within 10 days of the conclusion of the Regional Championships
· Following the Regional Championships, in collaboration a National Teams Staff member, National Technical Director, Regional Technical Director and Zone Head and Assistant Coaches will select Zone athletes to represent their respective Region at the National Training and Selection Camp
· A total of 70 athletes will be selected for the National Training and Selection Camp:
o East Region: 14 athletes selected
o West Region: 14 athletes selected
o Pacific Coast Region: 14 athletes selected
o Southern California Region: 28 athletes selected
National Team Selection Camp
· 11th Grade U is TBA. More than likely this will occur in April 2011.
· 9th Grade and 8th Grade U will take place Memorial Weekend: May 27-30, 2011
· 70 athletes will be selected to attend the NTSC from each age group and gender at the Regional Championships
· The NTSC’s are conducted by their respective National Teams Staff
· The NTSC’s will feature Regional teams playing a round robin ODP National Championship; technical and tactical training, physical testing, classroom sessions and competition that will combine the regional athletes
· ODP Head Coaches will attend the NTSC
· Born 94s-96s will be selected from the 11th Grade and U team to compete at the Youth World Championships in 2012.
6. PHASE 2 TRAINING TEAMS
· All Phase 2 athletes are invited to return to their respective Phase 3 ODP Training Team
· Invitation letters will be sent out no later than July 16, 2010
7. PHASE 3 TRAINING TEAMS
· 11th Grade U Phase 3 Training Teams will be selected at the conclusion of the first twelve hours of training. 8th Grade U and 9th Grade Training Teams will be announced at the conclusion of the Spring tryouts, and again after the first twelve hours of training if an additional tryout is required.
· A returning Phase 2 athlete may not be selected for the Phase 3 Training Team, at the conclusion of the first twelve hours
· All training teams may consist of a maximum of 36 athletes through the Zone Evaluation Camp and 28 athletes after the Zone Evaluation Camp
· An updated training team will be announced within one week of the conclusion of the Zone Evaluation Camp, after the approval of the Regional Technical Director
Reimbursement of Fees:
· If an athlete is not selected for the training team after twelve hours of training, and has paid in excess of $160, they will be reimbursed the difference.
· If an athlete is not selected for the final training team after the Zone Evaluation Camp and has paid over $320, the athlete will be reimbursed the difference.
