The inaugural ODP Regional Championships were established to become a premier event in USA Water Polo. Attending will be the top athletes, coaches and referees from throughout the United States. Athletes who attend will have gone through a selection process which includes testing, Zone Evaluation Camps and 48 hours of training. Each of the nine USAWP Zones participating will send a maximum of two teams with a total of 28 players. The 12 Regional Championships will feature the 800+ athletes, 72 coaches and 36 referees who participated in the Olympic Development Program.

 

From the Regional Championships, athletes, coaches and referees will be selected to participate in the National Training Selection Camp June 28-July 1, 2010. 30 athletes will be selected from the Southern California Region, 20 athletes from the Northern California Region, and 20 athletes from the East/West Region, totaling 70 athletes, the largest number to ever attend a National Training Selection Camp. Every Head Coach returning to ODP will attend the training camp for professional development and training in the ODP physical technical, tactical and psychological water polo system.

 

Competition Rules for 2010:

1.       All athlete’s will receive equal playing time for appropriate evaluation

2.       8:00 Minute quarters

3.       3 Time outs (2 x 1:00 timeout, 1 x :30 substitution timeout)

4.       Zone Head Coaches will provide within ten days of the conclusion of the Regional Championships an athlete evaluation form to each athlete

5.       ODP Staff will provide within ten days of the conclusion of the Regional Championships feedback and evaluations to the Zone coaching staff.

6.       Awards will be provided to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams

7.       The following will be recognized at the conclusion of each Regional Championships

·         All Region Team; 1 goalie and 6 field players

·         Top Player

·         Top Scorer 

·         Top Coach; Girls and Boys 

·         Top Referee

·      April 16-18

o  Girls 94U @ Pomona Pitzer College and Claremont College

o  Boys 92u and 94u @ J Serra High School 

o  Participating Zones: Coastal, Southern Pacific and Pacific Southwest

2.       Northern California Region        

·      April 18 and 25

3.       East/West Region

·      May 29-30
